How To Get A Moderator???? Posted By: John Rochowicz Date: 11/9/05 15:09 GMT

I am certain I remember that after Derek's passing, his family had posted a message thanking Chuck Maddox for agreeing to moderate this site. I think someone else's name was mentioned as well, but I don't remember who it was.

I don't remember those details.

I am sure I said I'd try to look in on Zowie more often until we had things resolved, but at this point getting things transfered from Derek to our control has taken a lot more time than we had hoped. Until that happens I only have as much power/influence as any of you do.

I know that I am loathe to take the permenent mantle of moderation of Zowie (or any additional forum) for a couple of reasons.

First off I'm so damn busy as it is, I am doubtful that I would be able to add yet another hat without letting one of the existing ones fall off my head and shoulders. Secondly, for the most part, I'm an outsider here at Zowie... Yes, I know some of you and I don't exactly have a low profile, but I'm more of a fixture (sometimes I feel like a certain ceramic fixture) at TZ's Omega Forum and OnTheDash. It's nothing against Zowie, but I was established elsewhere before Zowie was in operation. Thirdly, I feel that a regular should be a moderator at Zowie not some outsider or fringe contributor.

In light of all of the spamming that keeps hitting this site, I'm wodering WHO has administrative rights to the forum now that Derek is no longer with us?

At this point Derek. This is what Jeff and I (mostly Jeff) are trying to get changed.

Whoever it is doesn't seem to visit the site, but someone must be footing the bill for the webspace the site occupies.

The expense isn't the issue, I wish it was only that. The issue is getting things transfered over to us from Derek. We ARE working on it, we haven't forgotten, but we haven't gotten there yet. I am afraid that you'll have to be patient for now as efforts continue. If it were easy it'd be done by now, but in fairness to the Web Hosting service... Derek doing what he did is a new experience for the them too. There is no well trodden path, no roadmap for how to handle this sort of thing... None of us had any inkling about Derek's sudden departure and needless to say we didn't have any contingency plans in place or even considered when this occured.

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who has been disgusted with the needless spam and feels the need for a true moderator for this site. My question is, how do we get one????

John, that about step 50, at this point Jeff's slogging through step 8 or 9.

It goes without saying that this is my favorite watch site, so I hate seeing it inundated with spam.

No one likes Spam. Making a fuss about the Spam will do nothing but cause more spam as the spammers take note they are getting under people's skin. Unfortunately, the only alternative I can see would be having the Web Hosting firm pull the plug on ZOWIE (and hence Chronocentric, OTD and the other forums).

Do y'all think you can tolerate the situation until Jeff and I can get to the point when we can do something about it?
