Quartz is definitely more cost effective and way more accurate. The battery life is probably 3-4 years, however as the watch ages the battery wont last that long as there is more resistence and therefore more current draw. The omega seamaster i have is quartz and the battery is easy to change yourself. the battery is under 3.00 dollars US
