It depends how old your speedmaster is....
In Response To: Speedmaster inquiry ()

Hi Dimsy, I'll try to answer your questions.

: Hi! I want to ask the forum regarding the
: serial number on Speedmaster professional.
: Where is it located?

It is located in a number of places. It is stamped on the movement on ALL speedmasters from 1957 - 2005.

SOME speedmasters ( from the early 90's onwards ) have it etched into the backside of the 07:00 lug. If your watch is older than this, you'll need to remove the caseback to see the serial number.

I looked over at the
: back and I noticed a number '633' near the
: bracelet but then I also noticed that the
: bracelet is not the original one.

You seem to contradict yourself here. 633 CAN be the correct number for bracelet endpieces. This endpiece is 20mm wide & can be found on most watches from the early 70's through to mid 80's.

It is however possible that the end pieces are correct & the bracelet is not original & has been changed.

However , a previous owner could have fitted an 1171/633 bracelet to your watch. This is a common thing to do, since this combination is realtively cheap , easy to find & still available brand new.

I have a 1994 speedmaster & have fitted the 1171/633 combination ( I prefer it )

Can
: somebody give me a rough idea on what is the
: normal serial number for Speedmaster would
: be?

Chuck Maddox hosts a Speedmaster serial numbers & dates Chart. This gives you an overview of which numbers were used when.

The serial number of your watch depends purely on the age of your speedmaster. It will however be an 8 digit number.

: Oh, one more thing. How long before I have to
: wind this watch again? Is it 24 hours, more
: or less?

Yes. You CAN wind it more often if you want & you MAY be able to leave it between winds for upto 72 hrs ( depending on the condition of the movement). Most people wind their watches every 24 hrs.

: Thank you in advance.

No Probs :-)

Steve
