I prefer an automatic or a handwind watch over a quartz for these reasons:
-higher quality of movement and resistance through the years Resistance? Not sure I understand the usage of that word in this context, but OK...
-better value of mechanical watches Hmmm, OK. That can be a perception, but also might have some basis in reality. Most 1974 quartz watches aren't worth as much as most 1974 mechanical models, some might be (Speedsonic Lobster is an example of an _electronic_ watch that might be more valuable than a Speedmaster Moon of 1974, but it isn't a Quartz watch, but rather a tuning fork).
-longer durability of mechanical watches Hmmm... Debatable...
Quartz watches, as long as there are replacement parts available they should have every bit of durability (in terms of long term serviceability) as a mechanical, perhaps longer as there are more electronics graduates these days than watchmakers.
However, in terms of day to day durability, Quartz watches typically can take more physical abuse before failure than most mechanicals.
-superiority of piguet, lemania, vintage Omega and vintage and new Rolex movements to any of the Eta movements this in the fields of accuracy, durability and quality In the case of the Piguet built c.33xx I have next to zero confidence in the durability of that family of movements because of their abysimal track record of continuing failures (although failures have been repored at a slower rate recently than in previous years).
Georges, I know and understand that you distain the ETA movements. They aren't my first choice either. However, most of them are accurate durable and quality movements... They are just mass produced (hence far more common) and less expensive. Are they inferior to the movements you list off? Perhaps, perhaps not. Is a Honda inferior to a Roll-Royce? Perhaps but you are comparing the costly with the inexpensive.
-uniqueness of a mechanical watch I don't know that mechanical watches are ,,unique,, for there are many many of them.
However, I think the term "personality" is a very valid point.

georges Just an observation...
