I'm sure this isn't a normal situation. I would accept the offer to swap for a new model & ask for a COSC certificate.
I think Omega is doing what they can to remedy this situation.
As for your question about a watch sitting for 5 years & would it be detrimental to the movement ?
Modern watches use modern lubricants, these have improved a LOT over the years. The movement will not have neen irepairably damaged, however a service would be a good idea. If however the watch is running within reasonable accuracy limits, I would not say that a service is absolutely neccessary.
