My thaughts on this subject
In Response To: Omega Pricing ()

Hi

Rolex has always been known to increase their prices each year. The rolex prices have risen of 20% just in that year. I don't know much about Breitling. Historically speaking and as it was always the case since the late 30's, Omega was and still is Rolex's fiercest competitor. This could be explained for three reasons:
-they are the two biggest official certified chronometer manufacturers
-they are always introducing quality movements which are often highly regarded
-they had a significant impact in the world of chronometrical world
I wouldn't consider Omega as equal to Tag Heuer but better quality than Tags, this in terms of movements, finish, quality and overall quality.
About Breitling, they claim they are a manufacture (you can see on every of their watch case back: manufacture depuis 1884)but this is 100% false. Breitling buys movements to Eta, modifies them slightly and not widely as compared to Omega who have truely reworked eta 2892-2, eta 7750, lemania 1873, lemania 1866, fp1285ES de luxe, fp1181 and fp 1150 movements.
What is a manufacture? A firm that makes and conceipts its own movements. A firm that buys and have movements modified is definitely not a manufacture. True manufactures are rare today. Most of companies depend of Eta, Piguet and Lemania. Omega used to be a true manufacture till 1984. Now Omega has lost its manufacture status but it competes extremely well with Rolex,Blancpain,AP,Paneraï,Zenith,GO,Union Glasshütte and probably other firms I forgot to mention.

Just giving you my thaughts on this subject

regards

georges
