Although I don't actually dive (I have this fear of death thing) I have used mine for just about every other type of water activity. Snorkelling with stingrays in Grand Cayman, swimming with dolphins in Mexico, skiing, on and on ad infinitum. I will take it off from time to time if I'm doing something where it actually gets in the way such as moving furniture around and that type of thing. To me, 'beater' implies that you don't care if a watch gets damaged or not. I don't care if it gets dinged up a little, but I wouldn't want to spill paint on it.
Sometimes I'll use the trick that Chuck Maddox taught me and put a sweatband over it if I'm doing anything really physical that might damage it. Otherwise I take it off and put it in my pocket.
