Lew: I'm in complete agreement w/ you about watches to be worn, versus drawer liners.
The only thing I'd add to these great responses is that a previously owned watch is only as good as its seller. So, on an auction site, this not only means a large number of sales, a long history and something over 99% positives; but also someone who's sold this "type" of piece before (can't tell you how many folks I've seen selling $500 maximum items, then adding an SeMPC they bought from a "reliable source" or are "selling for a friend"). Look for an "absolute guarantee" of authenticity (which I gave w/out hesitation on the last 2531.80 I sold on an auction site). Finally, before I'd buy, I'd also f/up directly even w/ Buyers who gave your potential Seller "positive" feedback. Most feedback is done w/in days, and you'd be surprised who much you can learn through a personal eMail a month later: Promises not kept, performance that didn't pan out. If COSC requires 2 weeks to verify the original movement, why would anyone give feedback on a bought watch before spotting its precision accuracy for at least that long?
Finally, w/ the help of a great friend her on Chronocentric, I got pretty close to buying a 2537.80 myself, before opting for my last 2254.50 purchase instead. While I can't say the Seller was dishonest, it took so long to get straightforward and even anticipated common sense answers from him, that I simply gave up on what was probably an authentic 2537.80 in the end. Ironically, he sold if for a couple hundred dollars less than I would have paid him....
