Just thinking about this from a purely scientific standpoint, I could see how an electromagnetic pulse could affect both quartz and automatics. The quartz watch should stop running since it is a battery operated device. The automatic may continue to run, but the pulse could magnetize the watch, causing it to lose its accuracy. Granted, it would still run since it is purely mechanical, but I would suspect that it would keep far less than perfect time.
Just my thoughts....
