Re: If you were REALLY rich, what would you buy?

: To bring up a relatively straight (but not
: necessarily simple) question, what watch
: would anybody out there buy if they were as
: rich as Bill Gates? Are there any upper
: limits as far as style, taste, or cost that
: you would NOT go beyond??

: The Nardin repeater got me thinking about this,
: and the thought of spending THAT much money
: for THAT particular watch just seems vaguely
: revolting to me. One animated figure on a
: green dial with a chime (and not even
: multiple notes, like Westminster chimes) for
: 295K?? No tourbillon, or perpetual calendar,
: or split second chrono feature?

: I myself am fascinated by the mechanics of some
: of the more exotic complications, and I
: think my upper limit would be 100K for a
: titanium chrono with stopwatch (don't need
: the split seconds...) with the moon AND
: tides (they go together anyway...) and a
: tourbillon. Gotta have titanium, AND at
: least 200 meter water resistance.

: I would NEVER want solid gold, ANY jewels on
: the watch (even for my wife, thank you...),
: and I would really feel guilty about walking
: around in this world with a watch that was
: well into 6 figures. Maybe for somebody else
: that had a collection that might wind up as
: part of a museum someday, but any watch I
: would buy is gonna get a massive dose of
: fresh AND salt water, sand, and abuse on my
: wrist.

I wouldn't get crazy with spending however, I would get Speedy Moon, a Patek or two:-)and few vintage omega pocket watches.
