Question for you guys.
Hey all, I've been thinking lately about the sort of advice and information that I give to customers when they buy a watch from the store that I work in down here in Australia. Anyhow, I often have customers trying on a Moonwatch and they will ask me if the watch is water resistant. Usually, I tell them that 50 metres water resistance is pretty much considered 'splash-proof' rather than truly water resistant.
If they want true water resistance, I always tell them to get a watch that will go 100 metres or more.
The other day, I thought to myself; "Why not post this query on chronocentric and see what kind of responses you get?"
I ain't too proud to admit that after selling watches for the last five years, there are probably still some basic questions that I may not know the answer to, since there are so many conflicting opinions scattered all over various watch forums on the internet these days.
So I am curious to hear from Moonwatch owners out there as to whether or not you would wear that particular watch if you were going for a swim. Some customers who already have this watch have told me that they have worn the watch at the beach while others have told me that they have had water-resistance 'issues' with the watch. I would also love to get the opinions of any watch repairers who visit this site.
I have heard most of the sales representatives across all brands say to me: "If it says 50 metres water resisitant, then you can dive straight down to 50 metres with the watch on your wrist."
But let's face it, these guys don't actually OWN one of these watches themselves. Besides, I'd rather hear from those of you out there in the trenches who wear the watch on a daily basis under all manner of circumstances.
This question mainly applies to Omega watches, since this is an Omega forum, but if any of you have tales to tell of other brands, then they would be interesting to hear as well.
Thanks folks.
