Maybe you've seen some of my efforts on the Counterfeit side here, so please know that I am very much in favor of protecting our brand. I'm curious, however, how many times your friend has actually tried this bidding approach -- as I would imagine that eBay would cut his User Profile pretty quickly once notified, regardless of his intent. Further, as Profiles are associated w/ eMail accounts, if he were to want to have another Profile he could use for other, interested bidding, eBay, per its policy, might shut him out from everything for what he's doing ad hoc.
I have used the eBay policy of "Reporting Suspected Fakes" to pretty good results. I think when a few of us come down and complain to eBay on an item, it's not only pulled, but also the Seller is flagged for them.
In any case, thanks for your enthusiasm!
