Woo woo!. Just got my SMP Co-axial GMT a few days ago. Many thanks to Keith Downing, MMC, Seismic Sam for the referral.
Been checking the accuracy of the watch wearing it over the past few days and it seems to run about +4-5s/day. Although today it seemed to have jumped fast by three seconds in a few hours, but I'm not sure if its the watch, or my treo clock that i've been comparing it to (no atomic clock for me)... I guess i better use a different clock to compare accuracy.
I had the bracelet sized to 6.5 inches, but that got a bit snug when it got hot out so I removed a half link and added a full link. Now the watch wiggles around and has a lot more play on my wrist like my other watches do. I hate that tight watch, dig into the wrist, feel. One concern though, I tend to quickly flick my arm back and forth to 'shake' the watch up and down my wrist as needed. Would this damage the intricate moving parts in the automatic movement or what? What about running? This is my first automatic so i'm not sure how that goes.
Still on the subject of the bracelet, I've got to say that i'm a bit disappointed at the amount of hair pulling that I've encountered with this watch. The hair on my wrist doesn't actually get pulled by the 'bracelet,' but by the pinching of the clasp and the bracelet. If you look from sideways at where the clasp meets the bracelet you can see where the 'pinching action' would occur. I've read reviews where people say how they haven't experienced hair pulling with this watch, but I guess it must be due to my smaller wrists since I can see how the clasp wouldn't 'pinch' with the bracelet on someone w/ a larger wrist. Just caught me off gaurd since I have NEVER experienced any hair pulls with my Tissot T-Touch.
I love the see through caseback. I love seeing the rotor swing back and forth and around and around... but dangit if I didn't already somehow lightly scuff the brushed metal of the backside with, I assume, the unfolded clasp. Barely noticeable, but I can see it and know its there. ahh well, better than when I got my first dent on my new car within the first 24 hours of ownership...
Regarding the face, DANG, that superluminova is bright! I know everyone said superluminova is bright, but I never expected it that much brighter than my seiko (my seiko diver is much brighter and stays brighter longer than my more expensive T-Touch though for some reason). Very cool. Kinda different too, since it glows so strongly that the markers look green alot of the time in certain lighting conditions vs. all the pictures I've seen w/ the markers looking whiteish or very light yellowish greenish. Kinda wish it glowed bright like that throughout the whole night. Oh, and applied markers... gorgeous. Much more elegant than the painted on markers IMO.
So all in all, except for the hair pulling issue, I'm pretty satisfied with this purchase... (considering I could have bought a 42in. TV, a mac mini, and a whole bunch of gadget crap for the price of the watch... ) :) so now its time to see how accurate this watch is w/ my wearing habits...
