Rumored problem w/ certain seamaster Posted By: Conrad Date: 12/30/05 21:46 GMT
I am looking to purchase the Omega Seamaster 300 M Chrono Diver in titanium and 18k yellow gold w/ the blue face. Great watch...
The watch is currently discontinued and supposedly it has been since 1993. This is incorrect. The watch was introduced around the 1993-1994 timeframe and was discontinued about a year or two ago...
I have heard from two sources that the watch has had problems w/ the movement and that is one of the reasons it has been discontinued. I would suspect that both of your sources are salespeople in a jewelry store.
The reason why Omega discontinued this and the non-Gold Titanium model was that Omega introduced a slew of new chronographs using a new movement developed with Fredric Piguet that Omega calls the c.3303 and c.3301. It is this problem that has had problems with the movement, not the c.1164 used in the SeMPC. Omega wished to devote the production lines then being used for the White Dial Stainless SeMPC's, the Titanium SeMPC and the Two-Tone Titanium/Tantalum/Rose Gold SeMPC on thes newer models, that is why they were discontinued.
I wouldn't trust that salesperson as far at they could throw me overhand, and I'm John Candy sized...
One of the sources has been working the jewelery store for 20+ years and has had this specific watch returned 4 or 5 times due problems w/ the movement. Can you tell me anything about this? That sales person would rather sell you something he has in stock than try to find for you the watch you want.
I am making a decision between this watch and the seamaster 300 M Chronometer titanium and red gold. Thank you. Contact either Keith or myself. We'll set you up with an Authorized Omega Dealer who will search for the watch you want and give you exemplary service and a great price. No guarentee he'll be able to find it, or find it quickly, but he'll put the word out and go to bat finding one for you.
He also confirms my memory that the SeMPC (Valjoux 7750 Based, Omega c.1164) is a nigh-trouble-free movement and the SeMPC's are among Omega's most reliable and durable models. Frankly, in my opinion you'd be doing yourself a favor by going with the tried, tested and true SeMPC w/7750 base movement over the newer Piguet models.
Contact either Keith or me for a referral...
