Questions about first watch

Hey all,

I am looking to buy my first real watch. I tend to go big on purchases and I had never heard of Omega until I started looking at watches. I like some of the Seamaster line of watches especially the GMT (what does that mean? Greenwich mean time?) and the Diver Chronometer. I am nervous about spending this much on a watch. That said I would have no problem buying one if they are going to last and last. What can I expect as far as maintainance? Do these watches ever just stop working? This will be sort of a dress watch as I'll get a Marathon GSAR for rough play. I know it's not advisable to buy grey market so where can I find authorized dealers as the website requires you to long in. I live in Texas.

Thanks,
Brett
