Something that was brought up by Dell has got me thinking. He mentioned the process of buying the watch. I have been in this process for about 3 weeks now. I don't plan on buying until this summer after I get a new job. I originally started looking at TAG Heuers, but when I started reading I noticed that they are just stock ETA movements and are more expensive than I think that should be. I spent time looking at all major watch manufacturers. I really do like some of the Hamilton watches, as well as some Oris watches.
The reason I gravitate towards Omega is longevity. I don't want to buy a nice watch to later have to turn around and get a new watch because the old one broke. Even though the Omega might break, I'm hoping Omega would stand behind their product. To say that Omega being a luxury brand doesn't mean anything to me would be dishonest. However, I generally care more about what I have than I care about what other people think I have. I'm not out to impress everyone with my watch. I honestly want something that seems honest and for lack of a better word "nostalgic."
The first time I saw a mechanical watch I just stared at it as it went around smoothly and thought about all the little gears inside. I knew then I wanted one. The Guess quartz watch I have on and the Swiss Amry quartz watch I have at home are reliable, but I'm looking for more than that.
I started looking at all of the models on Omegas website and found some I just love. I have narrowed my search down now. I like the Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronometer 2502.33. I love the look of the white dail with the blue hands. Second, I like the Seamaster 300 M Diver Chronometer 2254.50. I'm not a diver but I like the sporty look. I would never use the helium thing but I guess if it has to be there. Lastly I like Seamaster Aqua Terra Railmaster Chronometer 2503.52. I like the simplicity of it.
Really I'm looking for a dressy type watch that I can wear everyday with everything. Regardless of which watch I get it will get worn...A LOT. I use what I have.
I tend to lean towards the new Co-Axial, becuase they only have to be serviced every 10 years I hear which would lower the cost of ownership.
Sorry for the long post. Just throwing it out there. What do you all think?
