Re: Omega Movements
In Response To: Omega Movements ()

: Lee,
: Although Georges has his opinions of modern day
: Omega movements, I would like to point out
: that the Co Axial escapement is probably one
: of the greatest advance in watchmaking in a
: very long time. Yes Omega uses ETA
: movements, so do a host of other fine
: watches, like Tag(ok, marginally fine), IWC,
: Breitling, to name a few. In my limited
: watch knowledege, I understand that Omega
: makes the most modifications to The base eta
: movement of all. Oh, and by the way, the
: Swatch group(parent of omega) owns ETA. I
: liken it to this. I have a dell computer
: that cost me 2 grand. It runs on a windows
: platform, has numerous components that are
: mfg by other vendors. Does this mean that a
: Mac is better because more if its components
: are made in house? Cant say for sure, but I
: would not trade my dell for a mac.

thanks for your input Mike B, it makes me feel better knowing that ETA is part of swatch, and therefore still relatively closely associated with Omega.
it just got me worried thats all, as i own three omegas
(x2 new, x1 vintage) and feel i am a good ambassador of the brand to workmates and friends who would only think of Rolex if purchasing a fine watch. i have shown them there is a choice and that Omega are just as fine a watch as Rolex. was just worried that this wasnt the case.
incidentally, even after my concerns about the movements in Omegas, i still consider them to be a nicer looking and move diverse model range than Rolex have
thanks !
ps- i use a mac powerbook ! - bloody expensive but it has never once crashed....
