magnetized movement

i heard that sending a watch through the mail could magnetize the movement.is this true?i am also a little bit nervous about sending a couple of grand to someone i dont know,for a product i have never held in my hand.if i live in ca. and buy a watch in n.y. who will service it?has anybody ever had any problems like this.or should i not worry as long as its from an ad.it seems that most people on this site get their watches via mail.thanks!
