Brian, I have bought 5 Omegas from John R.'s AD in NYC. They all arrived in perfect condition. The type of scanners used at airmail terminals (if that is your concern) are the same as those used at security check points at any airport. I have a Breitling Navitimer which has been through airport check-in about 30 times in the last six years and still runs like a top.
The best reason to use the AD in NYC is the incredible price, the fact that as a non resident you will not pay sales tax and his ability to locate anything in the Omega catalog quickly. If I order on Monday, I usually get the item on Friday. There is no guarantee that a local AD would be any quicker and he darn sure would not be cheaper. Give them a try, you won't be sorry. You can trust me I work for the government. :-)
