I think discounts are expected here in the US on just about everything; cars, jewelry, watches, groceries, weather it's by asking for them, items being on sale, or the use of sale coupons... Many of us have developed relationships with Authorized Dealers. We trust them, buy from them, and send our Mothers to them. The spirit of competition is very high in the US, and much evidenced by the Free Market. If a Dealer is going to loose a little off the retail, and prosper based on more volume, then he's figured out a way to be successful in America. Combine this with great customer service and knowledge about the product, and you gain loyal repeat customers.
