: The other thought that comes to mind here is
: the difference between a brand new house and
: a home that is the same dwelling 10 years
: later. The first is all shiny and new and
: smells of fresh paint, and latter has dings
: on the woodwork from the kids, and maybe a
: dog chew mark on a door, and countless other
: imperfections that came from your family
: living together in that house. Those aren't
: simply imperfections - those are MEMORIES,
: and fairly precious ones at that.
: I personally view the gathering collection of
: scratches on my SeMP the same way, and I
: didn't get ANY of them doing dull, boring
: office work. Some came from running a boat
: in pitch darkness and 7 foot seas off of
: Maverick's in California, and some came from
: grubbing around the BOTTOM of Grand Harbor
: in Jost Van Dyke trying to get my anchor to
: set in the loose, sharp coral sand that
: covers the rock floor of that bay. To
: paraphrase the American express ad with
: Robert DeNiro in it, this is MY life and MY
: watch. I go in harm's way on a regular
: basis, and my watch always goes with, and it
: looks like it.
Excellent point about the 'memories' each scratch and ding provides. However, my scratches usually have the memory something like "remember the time when you were walking through that door frame, and WHAMMO!"
I am going to start to wear it more often, though. Thanks for the advice.
