Tom Cruise's Omega

Just rented the remake of War of the Worlds and saw that Tom Cruise wears an Omega chronograph in several scenes. In one scene it gets its own close-up as he taps it, wondering why it isn't working.

Sorry if this is already common knowledge 'round here, but just wanted to point out the fact that if it was an automatic chronometer, why would it stop working during the alien-sent EMP?!
