: i read on an earlier post that the a.r. coating
: on the p.o. will scratch.is this true and if
: so,can it be buffed out or something?is that
: only on the p.o.model?sounds kind of laim to
: have a scratch resistant crystal with a
: coating on it that will scratch.thanks
: guys.oh yeah,GO SEAHAWKS.

I say GO STEELERS but on to more important matters. Yes, the Planet Ocean does have an anti-reflective coating on both the inner and outer surfaces of the crystal, whereas standard Seamasters have only the inner coating. And, yes, the outer coating can scratch, but it can also be removed by a competent watchmaker if you choose.

I agree 100% that the coating does not need to be there and makes an otherwise "impossible to scratch" crystal much more scratch-prone. Yes, it does help to reduce glare by having that extra coating on the outside, but you pay a hefty price for that extra little bit of glare reduction. Further, this outer coating also shows fingerprints, dust, etc. much more easily, and also makes the crystal fog-up easier.

The Planet Ocean is a great all-around watch, but most owners seem to agree that this outer AR coating is the one thing they dislike about their watch. In fact, I see comments posted on other forums ALL THE TIME about this very issue. I honestly hope Omega one day decides to listen to the consumers and get rid of the outer coating.
