For the answer to the NUMBER #1 most frequently asked question here--for details or value of a specific older Omega watch you have--go to: Tell Me About My Omega. | Learn more about How To Include Photos and HTML In Your Postings. | To contact someone with a question not relevant to other readers of the forum, please click on their email address and contact them privately. |
This was the only other post I could find from Derek regarding shock resistance:
: The fact that he said all Omegas are subjected
: to COSC tests makes me lose confidence in
: his knowledge of the brand.
The problem is often that the people at OMEGA are mostly not native English speakers. So their responses given in English frequently are worded a little akward.
The truth is -- and what I believe they were trying to say to you -- that OMEGA subjects all their watches to shock tests, in compliance with the same standards that COSC uses.
Those are the standards NHIS 91-10 and ISO 1413.
I know that the ISO standard is based on the simulation of the shock received by a watch on falling accidentally from a height of 1 meter on to a horizontal hardwood surface. [I wonder how they simulate the 'accidentally' part of it?]
Some other relevant ISO standards are:
ISO 764 - Antimagnetic watches
ISO 2281 - Water-resistant watches
ISO 6425 - Divers' watches
Sadly, I do not know of any sources for free copies of these documents.
