John, it's about time that I can teach you something!

Kinetic Energy is actually energy due to velocity. The equation to determine this is K = 1/2mv^2 (where m = mass and v = velocity). An object that 'falls' is actually accelerated. On earth, the 'g' value is 9.80m/s^2. If you have the height and acceleration, you can calulate an obeject's 'v' and in turn, calculate 'K'.

When you talk about a watch hitting something, I believe that it's the F (force) you're describing. Force = mass*acceleration (F = ma). The more an object accelerates, the more force acts upon it!

Hitting foam 'cushions' the fall and decelerates the watch less as quickly as, say, concrete. Oh, and g's are just another way to measure Force.......
