Sam, momentum DOES change. It's calculated by mass * velocity. If you are moving, then you have momentum, if not, then you don't..... As in the case of bouncing objects, the change in momentum depends on whether it is an elastic (KE and momentum are conserved) or inelastic (in which 'they' are not) collision. Of course, the conservation of energy applies, but it would just mean that the kinetic energy from the watch got transfered to the ground (heat) and into the backwards kinetic energy to 'bounce' the watch upwards.

But that's enough physics! I believe that you're right about falling watches. The amount of deceleration is so great [change in velocity (huge) divided by change in time (extremely small) = Gargantuan number......
