Where do you live? If it had gone to Omega in Bienne, Switzerland, it would have cost about 1/2 of that for a complete overhaul, depending on the model.

I'm assuming it was mechanical. Mechanical things break, wear out, get misalligned... These things happen. I typically don't recommend taking a watch back to the Dealer to fix. Most don't have the means to fix it themselves, and will send it off to a Service Center. Personally, I'd rather just send it back to where it was created.
