: I have had my omega watch for a little over
: 3-yrs. I couldn't believe it has stopped
: completely and I had to take it where I
: bought it from. I just learned that my watch
: was checked by the omega company and I had
: to pay more than 500 dollars for a repair. I
: absolutely refused to pay and said I was
: fooled once when I bought it but not now for
: the second time. I have ordinary watches in
: perfect condition for more than 5-years. I
: guess it is just the name and I won't
: recommend anyone to spend such amount for a
: bigger disappointment.
As Keith said, you can get a complete overhaul by the Omega factory for about half of what you were quoted, so I can only suggest that you were being ripped off by the person who gave you that estimate.
Naturally, I can understand your anger at this. I'd be angry, too, if I were quoted this outrageous sum for a repair on a 3-year old watch. However, I wouldn't hold it against Omega. All mechanical watches do require periodic maintenance to replace the lubricants, gaskets, pressure check for water tightness, etc. That's one of the things that you have to expect when you buy a mechanical watch - you will pay far more for servicing than you will on a $100 quartz Seiko.
