Re: Diver extension clasp
In Response To: Diver extension clasp ()

: Hi all!
: A quick introduction and then my problem. Ive
: owned a black/black Seamaster pro now for
: just over a year and absolutely love it! At
: the time I was looking at watches in the 300
: pound bracket and didnt see anything I
: really liked. My eye the caught the SMP and
: that was that! It took a while to be able to
: justify the extra cost but its something I
: dont regret. Unfortunately I found this
: forum after my purchase and thus was under
: the impression a quartz would be more
: durable than an automatic (tho Id never have
: been able to justify another cost increase
: for the automatic) So the auto will have to
: wait for a couple of promotions 1st and then
: I can seriously consider a PO :-D
: Anyway, Iv had no problems whatsoever for the
: 14 months Ive had my watch, until I slipped
: over the other day and banged the clasp.
: This has actually bent the diver extension
: slightly where it connects to the bracelet,
: so now when the clasp is closed the end link
: sits slightly proud of the clasp.
: The watch came with a 2 year warrenty along
: with an additional year offered by the
: authorised dealer. However it says this does
: not include damage caused through mis-use
: etc. Could therefore, the dealer refuse to
: fix the diver extension under the warrenty
: an I will have to pay? I didnt bang the
: clasp really hard and was surprised that
: damage resulted. How do I go about resolving
: this with the dealer?
: Also, having spent time looking closely at
: this, it appears this connection could be a
: potential weak point, as you have just the 2
: thin pieces of metal close together
: attaching the clasp to the bracelet. Has
: anyone else experience as similar problem
: with the extension bending slightly?
: (apologies for the length of the post, hope you
: made it this far!)
: Cheers,
: Pricey

In all honesty, this is such a simple repair that I don't think you'll have a problem. If your AD does not have an Omega trained watchmaker on staff, he may tell you that you have to send it back to Omega for the official "warranty repair". For such a quick and easy repair job I doubt that Omega would charge you for it, especially since you are sending them a watch that is still under warranty.

To answer your other question, I have seen other posts about people complaining about various aspects of the diver's extension clasp. In some cases it wasn't tight enough to secure the clasp when closed and needed warranty repair. So, yes, it's possible to get a brand new Omega with a weak spot at the diver's extension.

Good luck,
John
