Regardless of the price question, the Planet Ocean is a fabulous watch. I purchased mine several months ago, and it has become my favorite watch. Like you, I find the Rolex bubble to be offensive.
The size and styling of the PO case is to my eye perfect (42mm PO, black). Needless to say, the movement and function of the watch is beyond reproach. The watch is heavier than my SMP by about 20 grams, so it is a litle more "noticible" while you are wearing it. The bracelet is in my opinion superior to the speedy bracelt on the SMP.
Even your revised price seems OK, though not as fabulous as the original, so go for it.
