This is my watch, bought from an AD; I took the pictures. This is what the watch you are looking at should look like.

I agree w/ Keith, it sounds fake. Or at least improperly repaired, altered. The Bond Seamaster (2531.80) has black date numbers against a white background; the 2254.50 has white numbers against a black background - very elegantly blending into the rest of the overall dial presentation.
