In Response To: Speedmaster 3570.50 ()

: I noticed that a few people here own
: Speedmaster 3570.50. What's your opinion on
: that model ?

I have one from 1994. It's an amazing watch. If I could only have 1 Omega ( & it has to be a current model ) that would be the one I would choose.

For those who are not sure which model this is, it is the Speedmaster professional "Moonwatch"

My opinion ?

Advantages. - Every one knows it. It has REAL history. It will always be collectable. It is stylish, classic, sporty & can nevertheless be worn with a suit. Easy to read is most lighting conditions. Spares will be available for MANY many years to come etc etc

Disadvantages - It's a manual wind, it doesn't have a date, It has a plastic crystal that scratches quite easily.

I can live with it being maunal & dateless, but I'd prefer it if it wasn't. The crystal isn't really a problem, since you can get a new one fitted for around $50 ( or whatever $50 is in the currency in your country ), & you can easily polish small to medium scratches out ( see link at the end of this post. )

As you can see I like it :-)

That's probably my next
: purchase, not too dressy and not too sporty.
: Fully manual and it has no date.

yep we agree on most of this.

The one I checked out a few months ago had
: "hard" pushers, they required a
: bit of force to push in. Is that normal ?

I think so. Especially of you were looking at a brand new watch. I don't think the pushers ever go "soft" I own a few speedmaster MKII's, which are now over 30 years old. They have, effectively, the same movement. the pushers are easier to push than my newer watches, but still "firm" & "crisp".

: And two clicks to start/stop the timing and
: two clicks to reset ?

Yes & No.

- For the top pusher
1st click starts/ 2nd click stops oush it again & it will restart from the current position etc etc.

-For the lower pusher
the large central second hand has to be stopped. a single push & the chrono-timer hands will reset to zero. It is almost impossible to push the reset pusher whilst the chrono-timer hands are in motion. If you try, you will need considerable force to actually press the pusher in & if you manage that, you will have probably damaged the movement !

Good luck with your choice & let us know what you decide.

Steve

Here's a couple of ways to remove scratches from a plastic crystal
