Actually, Ashford was accused of selling watches with serial numbers removed, watches that were secondhand or refurbished as new, and so on, about a year or so ago. I am not sure what the status of the inquiry/lawsuit is, but the noise popped up right around the time that they went public and changed their name to Ashford. My recommendation is to check out www.wristwatch.com, who is also a Houston, Texas - based dealer. Their prices are usually $100 or so better than Ashford, and they typically have a better selection. I have been to their store, and can vouch for their authenticity. A good friend just bought an SMP mid-size chronometer (2551.80) for $1101 from those guys.
