I Agree, and for Another Reason As Well...

I can't agree more, Steve. This is a sign of either gross incomptence or extreme complacency on the part of a company that should be doing all it can to protect its good name.

Frankly, one other issue has been bothering me about Omega for the past few months, and that is the issue of servicing watches with serial numbers removed. On the old Omega website there was a disclaimer that stated that Omega would not service gray market watches that had their serial numbers removed. This clearly made sense, since without a serial number to trace the watch's origin, Omega was under no obligation to service it, even though the owner would be paying out-of-pocket for the servicing. However, Omega has since revoked that policy and will now service ANY watch, serial number or no serial number.

If this is a company that supposedly wants to build up its brand image and truly crack down on gray market dealers, how in the world can they justify servicing watches that they KNOW are gray market? If people knew they could NEVER get their gray market watches (without serial numbers) serviced by Omega, don't you think this would help discourage potential gray market buyers? Furthermore, if Omega receives a watch with no serial numbers, they are 100% certain it is gray market. To service it is to, in effect, acknowledge AND accept the entire gray market practice.

I know the answer is all about $$$$. Omega can charge the same fees to service an AD purchased watch as they can to service a watch with serial numbers removed. Still, at some point Omega has to stop giving us all lip-service and playing us for fools when they say they want to discourage gray market selling. I don't think there's a person on this forum who actually believes that, since Omega gets the same 55% of MSRP whether the watch is sold through an AD or a gray market dealer. As much as I love Omega's products, I believe they have a long way to go in taking their brand image to a higher level and establishing full credibility among their loyal customers.
