My 2 cents worth here.
: Well Steve, I am not astonished and this proved
: that I was very right not to trust people
: claiming that the watch they sell was legit
: even if restored by Omega.
Hi Georges, So who do you trust ? I trust myself, my own eyes & judgement. I try to read & learn as much as I can about Omega ( well, the Omega watches that interest me ). But there are plenty of people "out there" that don't have the time, money , patience or possibilty to do this research. They simply see a watch, with a certificate, so it must be good. The certificate was issued by Omega, not the seller. If you can't trust Omega to certify their own watches, who can you trust.
You know see my
: point why I prefer to deal with real
: professionnals than amateurs.
As I pointed out above, the certificate is from Omega. Is there anyone better or more professional ?
The seller IS a brick & mortar jeweller in Germany. They are a limited company ( that means in Germany, they have paid the state 50 Thousand Euros & their max accountability is 50 Thousand Euros - I think ). This is NOT a shady internet dealer. This looks to me like a genuine dealer that has somehow got a fake with a certificate .
They have an eBay rating of over 4000 & over 5500 positive feedbacks.
They too are professionals.
: Omega lacks someone like Mr Dietelheim, Daniel
: Anselmi replaced him but I don't know of how
: good he is in vintage watches.
I'm afraid I can't comment here. I have never met or heard of Mr Anselmi. I have met some of the other Omega Vintage experts ( Mr Deithelm- retired, Mr Richon, Mr Miranda ). They ALL made a very competent impression with me when I visited the museum.
What I can say to this certificate action is :-
- Owners were encouraged to take their seamasters to an Omega flagship store in Germany.
- The watchmaker there, took pics & details & sent this info to Switzerland.
- Someone there, entered & checked the data, then issued the certificate.
- So the watch never left Germany & was probably in the shop for less than 1 hr.
- If the photos weren't of good quality, who knows what the guys in Switzerland got.
- I know a collector who took his "Anakin" Seamaster in. The watchmaker said he had never seen one of these before. Unfortunately nt every watchmaker knows every model.
- I have no idea who did the "work" in Switzerland, I think it a bit unfair to name a single Omega employee...... the signature (probably computer printed ) is from Stephen Urquart - you know the guy that is always pictured with Michael Schumacher or Cindy, or Anne...
- I do know that there was a similar action in Austria a couple of years ago. Omega issued 14,000 certificates, for the Austrian action. With that quantity of certificates, there are bound to be a few "mistakes".
as I ended my first post,
Be careful out there.
