Almost all of the stories I've heard like that have been from people who left the watch in the hands of their jewelry store to have serviced. Some dealers claim they will send your watch to Omega, but then have their own people do the work and bill Omega for the warranty service.
I would recommend sending the watch directly to an Omega Service Center yourself. That way you are in control of all arrangements and you will communicate directly with Omega on any details.
