Hands down, Omega is a finer watch...(more)
In Response To: Raymond Weil? Omega? ()

: model for my girlfriend. But my friend who
: bought a raymond weil said I shouldn't and
: r.w's are better. I don't believe they are,

Of course he thinks they are better--to say otherwise would mean he made a poor choice.

The best points to make on why Omega is better:
+ Omega has a much longer history... dating back to 1848.

+ Omega is known for making high end mechanical AND quartz watches. Many of their watches are used by professional astronauts, pilots, and divers.

+ RW makes mainly (only?) quartz watches.

+ Brands like RW and TAG are the 'high-end' watches at department stores like Macy's. But they are the 'low-end' watches in the finer jewelry stores where you see Rolex and Omega for sale.

+ If you want to know what a watch is REALLY WORTH, check out what they sell for on the used watch market. Look on eBay... You'll hardly see a RW for over $500 unless it has diamonds. Yet recent model Omega watches START at about $750 for used steel/quartz models and go up from there!
