Re: AD Referral: Chicago?
In Response To: AD Referral: Chicago? ()

: Hello everyone -- longtime lurker and first
: time poster. Love the great info you all
: provide. Two questions: 1. I'm finally ready
: to take the plunge and am getting the Bond
: Seamaster Quartz. I definately want to go
: the AD route, but I am wondering if anyone
: knows of an AD (either here in Chicago or
: elsewhere in the U.S.) that can beat the Big
: Prices quoted on Omegas here in some of the
: larger Michigan Ave. ADs. It seems nobody
: will come down from the MSRP.

Check your e-mail for my AD referral.

: 2. Assuming there is nobody in the city and I
: purchase from an AD out of state, does
: anybody know how difficult it will be to
: resize the Bond bracelet here locally? In
: other words, any experience with local ADs
: hassling you on maintainance or resizing if
: you purchased from an otherwise valid out of
: state AD? Can a local non-AD watch shop do a
: resizing, or must I go to an AD (such as
: Tourneau, etc.). For some reason I envision
: a snooty clerk telling me they'll have to
: charge me $100 or something. Am I too
: cynical?

Bracelet sizing is no problem. I have found that if you go to a local AD and tell them the watch was "a gift", they'll often size the bracelet for free. If not, they won't charge more than about $5-$10. You can go to any local AD or a local watchmaker. Bracelet sizing does NOT have to be done by an AD. In fact, I size my own bracelets with the tools I bought from www.mywatchmaker.net.

Also, if you can measure your wrist size with a tailor's tape, my AD will size the watch for you before they ship. If you don't have a measuring tape, just wrap a string around your wrist and mark where the two ends meet, then open it up and measure the length with a ruler. Wrist sizes are usually in the 6.5" to 8" range. Make sure you add at least 1/4" to your measurement. You don't want the watch to fit skin tight since it will HURT when your wrist swells from perspiration (I have first-hand experience with this). You need some "play" in the bracelet.

Good luck!!
