Depends on what you mean by "been on the catalogue"...

The Speedmaster Mark II was introduced in 1969, don't know if the Gold version was introduced at the same time as the Stainless models or not, and were in the product line at least through 1975.

did they sell well in the early seventies?.

Well enough to be the most commonly seen Speedmaster Variant (at least in Stainless Steel that is). But not popular enough that Omega didn't drop them from the production line at some point in the late 1970's.
