Hesalite - just how fragile is it?

Hello all,
I am very close to making my first Omega purchase, either the *real* Speedy Pro, or the sapphire version. The only thing that I am worried about - and from reading some old posts here, I can see that I'm not alone - is how scratched up my hesalite crystal is going to get. First, let me say that I dont mind making a trip down to the old AD to get it polished up once it does get scratched a little, or maybe even doing it myself. Second, I am almost obsessive-compulsive when it comes to keeping my watches (Hamilton, Seiko, etc) in mint condition. This means lots of wiping off with the shirt tail, evasive manuevers to avoid door handles (you know the move) and extra care to avoid dings or scratches of any kind. Now, I find it very VERY hard to justify shelling out the extra $700 for the sapphire version if my hesalite will stay relatively scratch free from NORMAL use, but if it looks like its gone through a war after wearing it for a month or so, then I would grudgingly pay extra to avoid the hassle. My question to you all is: What has been YOUR experience? Is it OK to wipe down with a soft rag or shirt without getting NOTICABLE scratches? What about soft incidental contact with objects like plastic parts on the interior of your car... just things that normally happen in the course of wearing it. And just HOW bad are these "normal" scratches... can you see them only under very close inspection, or is everyone going to start noticing them and wondering why I keep jacking up my new expensive watch so badly?
If I have it all wrong, please put me in my place.
Thanks in advance....

Mike
