Some Updates on the Bond SMP's

I had a very long conversation with my AD yesterday about the new Bond SMP, and, unfortunately, his Omega rep didn't really have much new information to share. However, he did mention a few items of interest that I thought I'd mention. Please keep in mind that sometimes Omega sales reps are misinformed (as my AD has noted on previous occasions), so this is only information being passed on by one sales rep:

1) The new "hypnotic" 007 limited edition piece will only be available to a handful of US dealers who attended the Basel Watch Fair and placed their orders at that time. Apparently Omega is trying to keep this watch very "limited" indeed. The sales rep indicated that only 4-6 AD's in the entire US will have access to this LE watch. Figure that one out????

2) The new Bond co-axial SMP is not yet available for dealer orders, and Omega won't yet commit to an exact availability date. The new dealer catalog my AD just received has no mention of whether the watch will have a sapphire caseback or a standard one (sorry, Jason and Joey!!!!!).

3) Omega is NOT planning to stop production of the 2531.80 as soon as the new watch is released. Their plan right now is to gradually phase it out, but Omega doesn't want to immediately lose customers who can afford the 2531.80 but not the more expensive co-axial version.

4) This one I find really hard to swallow (as does my AD), but the sales rep claims that Omega expects to see a 35% increase in sales this year because of the new Bond film. The rep claims that management/marketing has told him that the interest generated from the Bond films causes a great interest in the brand itself, so Omega expects that even people who don't buy a "Bond watch" will find a new interest in other Omega watches. Omega is going to promote the Bond tie-in very heavily in its advertsing to generate this "supposed" 35% sales increase.

Again, take all of this with a grain of salt, since my own AD has admitted he has run into more than one Omega rep who knew less about the product line than he does.
