1. I think Rolex still has an advantage over Omega in its movement. I own a Planet Ocean. It is based on an ETA 2892-A2 movement that has withstood the test of time, but Omega is on its 3rd iteration of the Co-Axial escapement mod and this "C" version is only a year old. So far so good, but time will tell.
2. Part of the allure of the mechanical watch, as opposed to its more acurate and reliable quartz cousin, lies in tradition of manufacturing. Some watch companies have certainly always outsourced movements--but buyers today do appreciate a company that makes their own. Rolex does. Omega does not.
3. I for one don't discount liquidity.
4. While beauty is in the mind of the beholder, the Sub/SD has a very popular look, one that many prefer to Omega's SM line.
All told, I do think Omega is a superior value and I'd imagine many Rolex-only owners would agree. But to chalk Rolex' popularity and price up to marketing hype doesn't do justice to the brand. So on that note we disagree.
