Yes, my policy is -
(1) not to pay out any more than I am willing to risk, and
(2) minimise the risk by making sure there is a clear commitment to accept return of watch if is is not considered satisfactory.
However this policy has only developed through my fairly poor Ebay experiences so far (two to be precise!)
Yes the main hold you have relates to feedback, but there is still a contract to enforce in other ways if necessary. This assumes you are in their jurisdiction of course, and that you get their name and address (and in my case bank details) before parting with money.
If you get the watch checked out properly on receipt and have the chance to return it, what can go wrong?
