Hi,
Four weeks of ownership now, and I am loving this Speedmaster. I bought it second hand from a registered Omega dealer (Cottrills of Bramhall, Stockport, Cheshire, UK). It's a 2002 Speedmaster Pro 3570.50.00 (with papers etc.) that has been carefully reconditioned by the store.
The only signs of life before I bought it are a slight flattening of the bezel bang on the 60 mark of the tachy scale (is that normal?) and the bracelet has a 100% brushed effect now rather than having bright bits (an effect I actually quite like).
So far, it has only stopped once due to my forgetting to wind it. I usually remember around about morning coffee time at work. You know ... "10.30 ... oh, nice watch ... oh s**t, wind it!"
For me, it was a choice between this and the Bond Seamaster. In the end the deciding factor was my considering what the heck I would do with a helium release valve while walking around the streets of Cheshire. More useful to me is the tachy scale, both for my interest in motor racing but also because I play guitar in a covers band and it's good for working out how many beats are in a song per minute!
The only think I miss is a date function. This watch replaces a £90 Swatch that I picked up at Geneva airport on returning from a ski trip. It's stopwatch functions were starting to fail and Swatches are, of course, unservicable (despite the existence of a UK Swatch Service Centre!!!). The Swatch had a date display and as my working life revolves around meetings, it was sort of useful. The whole-dial data function on the Speedy, however, is a cluttered and expensive option.
Anyway, enjoy the pics even though they are not of a watch as rare and interesting as the ones usually posted on this forum.
Nige.
