Re: Planet Ocean Crystal
In Response To: Re: Planet Ocean Crystal ()

I have noticed NO tendency for the sapphire crystal on my SeMP to be susceptible to scratches at all, and the same was true for my Speedy MK II. The Speedy crystal is NOW quite scratched and pitted, but that took 20 years of abuse to accomplish , and I remember quite clearly having my left arm trapped hard between two large rocks once, and having to drag it out of the pinch point with the crystal scraping on the rocks on the way out.

Due to my advanced age and somewhat sloppy technique of going around corners in my building a little too tight, my watch crystal gets "doinked" off a painted concrete wall about once every other month, and it still looks like new. Ditto for dings and collisions with boat winches, sailboat railings, and other boat hardware. I can't imagine that they use a less durable crystal on the PO than the SeMP. Maybe the difference is that since my cataract surgery, I can't see close detail nearly as well as I could before, or that I really am not all that concerned about the close up appearance of my watch. In addition, I don't think scratches on Titanium may be quite as obvious as on SS.

At any rate, I can't think of any way that you could easily scratch a sapphire watch crystal. Hesalite, yes, but not sapphire.
