but I do have a relatively cheap winder (<$35), made in China, that is probably similar. They are definitely not quiet, and mine has no timing logic, but will run continuously. Although it will rotate either CW or CCW, it will not switch.
It has been working for more than a year, and definitely keeps my authomatics wound. However, to prevent excessive wear (since continuous winding is NOT necessary to keep the movement wound) and to not drive myself crazy from the noise, I plugged it into an external $20 digital timer that is set to go on for 4 minutes, every hour between 7AM and 9PM. That keeps every automatic I own,including my Omega fully wound. I manually switch from CW to CCW rotation every day or so to keep the winding more even.
A more expensive winder (say several hundred to thousands of $) is just quieter, made of more expensive wood, and probably has an internal digital timer to limit operation time to a certain # or revolutions a day, and can probably switch between CW and CCW throughout the day. No one has convinced me that they wind a watch any better than my set-up.
