I'll always remember my first day at work after I got my first Omega, my Bond SMP. We were sitting down at lunch and the discussion turned to watches when one of my co-workers noticed my new watch. This co-worker had a Rolex Sub Date on his wrist and was a fellow watch enthusiast, so we were on the same wavelength. One of the other guys started asking about price, and we were both honest. He replied by pointing to this butt-ugly Timex on a black velcro strap on his wrist. He said, "You see this - $15!!! I think it's absolutely ridiculous to pay so much for a watch." I wanted to tell him his watch was so ugly I wouldn't have taken it had he given it to me, but I just replied "It all depends on your hobbies and interests" and left it at that.
Still, it takes a fellow watch enthusiast to really understand WHY people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a watch.
