Have just acquired another vintage Seamaster. This one was an unplanned purchase from Ebay (link below).
My feeling is that this is probably a 166.001 model with a 562 movement. I have not been inside to find out yet.
The dial is in fairly poor condition, but the watch has indeed been "serviced" by a fairly reputable looking dealer and runs very well indeed.
Two questions, -
When I flick my wrist it makes a ratcheting sound like the winding weight (you know what I mean) is spinning rapidly. This does not happen with my other watches, so I wonder if this is something to worry about.
Is there a difference between "restoring" and "refinishing" a dial? I would not want to have this dial repainted as that would ruin its character, but I would love to have it cleaned back to original state. I did this with a previous watch. What does "restoring" involve?
I am not sure if the crown is the right one for this watch. It has a Omega sign but I think the larger crown fits better with this watch. Any views?
This is definately my LAST vintage Seamaster. I now have 3 of these acquired in the last six months. I may have to call some kind of helpline soon unless I can control myself a bit better .....
