... is more like the club owner who puts up a sign "Full! No more guests admitted!" for the first two weeks of operation even though there is nobody inside except the staff, in order to build up hype and make entry seem more prestigious. In the long run, I am beginning to suspect they will succeed. It's simply short-term that they're irritating people, and a relatively small amount of people at that (collectors and brand enthusiasts like us!). The general public loves hype (Rolex, Bose, Hummer etc.); that's why restaurants with snooty staff and long waiting lists exist, for example.
