Not supposed to. Make sure you are pulling the crown out correctly. One stop point changes the hour, a different stop point changes the date.

If you pull the crown out part way between these two settings, then you may end up operating both modes at once.

I've heard a couple of reports of this, though several people commented that the effect later went away. Not sure if it was because they eventually got the hang of using it right or if something on the watch settled in and stopped making it too easy to do that.
